Leuty Beach, Lifeguard House in winter. (1920)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Leuty Lifeguard Station is one of the most photographed building of The Beaches. Built in 1920 by Chapman and Oxley architects. Almost destroyed in the 1980's, local residents banded together to have the structure restored, eventually getting a historical designation.

The station has also been credited with saving more than 6000 lives, which I find unbelievable. How can a building save lives....?

Restored in 1993, when the tower was added.
