Aranyművesek utcája / The Golden Lane

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Innen származik a név: Aranyművesek utcája.

The Golden Lane (Czech: Zlatá ulička) was built in 1597 by Rudolf II Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary and Bohemia. The main purpose of this street to provide accomodation for the King's marksmen. The buildings on one side are part of the castle's wall. This part is crenellated. The Golden Lane used to be home for many alchemist and goldsmith in the past. This is where the name originates. The most known inhabitant in the 20th century was Franz Kafka's sister Ottla. She lived under street number 22. Kafka was insipired during his stay at her sister to write the novel titled 'The Castle' in 1917.
