A huge pile of Ms!

n1w, I guess Gnarly was too awestruck to wreak his usual havoc.

kamalyn, on September 15, said:

wow! 16thousand Thanks for that n1w and Guy! Yup, still here. Seems Gnarly hasn't made it over to this side of the harbor, lol. I think he's trying to surf, and lol, there's rarely any waves there!

Approaching 17k. What's the M for? A Roman numeral thousand?

kamalyn, 14 days ago, said:

mmmmm, yup. Just figured it was a way to keep track of them with a unique tag. Though since the server migration, its new views have sure slowed significantly. Used to get about 250 a day. But Don't blame me about the little numeral game. Guy started it!

whoelius, 14 days ago, said:

I absolve Guy of all blame and pass it on to the Etruscans. Their symbols were actually a bit different and they evolved into I, V, X, L, C, D, M through the time of the Roman Republic.

Imagine thinking instinctively about numbers and proportion in terms of those seven letters. Imagine if we had to use those in Calculus classes instead.

The funny thing is that the Hindus were smart enough to use the numeral system 300 years before the Roman Republic even existed.

whoelius, 13 days ago, said:

Well I suppose it's not really funny at all...

kamalyn, 10 days ago, said:

Well, what's funny is that we still use that cumbersome Roman system at all! But only XXXIII and this one can turn the odometer a notch.
