This is in a grave yard in Glasgow where the very rich used to be buried. Glasgow made lots of money out of the tobacco trade in the 18th century. Unfortunately this trade was connected to the slave trade although to Glasgow’s credit it was one of the staunchest abolitionist cities in the UK.

Greetings Billy, Very interesting story. They certainly spared no expense with the tombs. It must be a wonderful place to explore.
Cheers,
Rich

This is the tomb of a famous theologian, William Rae Wilson, LLD, author of "Travels in the Holy Land", and editor of many other works, which is alluded to in the distinctly Islamic architecture of his final resting place - an unusual memorial for 1849, even by the standards of the Necropolis.

I didn't know any of that when I took this shot John so thanks interesting info. :)

Interesting necropolis Billy. To think what people would build on a graveyard, not only here. Sometimes it's amazing.
Thanks John, I can see that distinct Islamic influence, it makes this object even more interesting.
Greetings, Mira

I can see the similarity here between the two photos Billy and Mira. You are both always so in accord. And thank you John, for yet another interesting line of history. This place reminds me of St.Andrews too. I shall be "home" next week. Maybe .... I can capture the essence ...

As someone remarked, the very place to be seen, dead! This link will provide you with greater detail to what else the Necropolis has in the way of fine monuments to mortality... http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Parks_Outdoors/HeritageTrails/GlasgowNecropolis/necropolisheritagetrail.htm
