Westmount College on fire on Sunday, 23rd September, 2007. Just a day after the blaze at St. Columba's Church in Dover's High Street (ex-United Reform Church).

Westmount college was standing derelict and from this angle (looking north from Folkestone Road) the damage is most apparent on the right-hand side of the top floor where the roof has collapsed.

Some info on Westmount College from "Dover Soul":

Many other historic buildings in the town include Westmount ...originally built as a manor for a coal miner from County Durham and originally called Mount Ellis after the persons surname. It was used as a school for boys for a while until Castlemount School was built (now demolished and the site of Monastery Gardens, Pharos Drive and Heritage Gardens). More recently it has been a adult education centre and is now being developed possibly into housing. It stands just off Folkestone Road and has 19 acres attached!

A Dover Museum webpage states:

In 1869 Robert Chignell, who had a private school at Westmount, in Folkestone Road, leased part of the Priory buildings for a private school.

From Dover Past and Present:

On June 7th (1944 - see WW2) Dover took a pounding from German guns on the French coast, shells exploded at Westmount, Folkestone Road, Snargate Street, Queen's Avenue, Malmains Road, Clarendon Place, Kitchener Road and Albany Place.

BBC News Report "Derelict college building on fire":

Six crews from across east Kent were called to a fire at a derelict former college building in Dover.

Firefighters had to pull away from the three-storey building for a time on Sunday afternoon because of safety fears after part of the roof collapsed.

Eyewitness Louise Scott, who lives nearby, told BBC Radio Kent she saw flames coming from the roof of Westmount, in Folkestone Road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called just before 1400 BST.

It is the second major fire in Dover in two days.

The former St Martin's Church (St. Columba's) on the corner of Priory Hill and High Street went up in flames on Saturday.
