Wow, that is a very nice shot of this beautiful area Ian. I like the low hanging clouds and the snowy peaks of the mountains and the great colours. LIKE! Greetings Berend

Thanks very much, Berend. It is a sheer privilege to travel in such a landscape. The colours are so strong and the mountains majestic. The rock-flour induced blue of Lake Pukaki is a pleasant surprise - even when you have seen it before.

Warm greetings,

Ian

Yes its a magic landscape, not just your photo but so much of NZ. Beautiful line of cloud and contrast of colours between lake and grass. like

Wow Simona,

I am so pleased you like this one, for I didn't think it would satisfy anybody but myself - especially in small format. But when it is enlarged it seems to come into vibrant life. It is a wonderful landscape and I delighted in it the whole time I was there. And I am going back!

Thanks for your joyful wishes. Today was wonderful.

Warmly,

Ian

Hi Greg,

The Alps create quite an effective rain-shadow with very high rainfalls at Hokitika and lower rainfall in the Otago back country and southern Canterbury. The complementary colours here reflect that.

Thanks for your appreciative comments.

Hi Ian,

You are right about the large version. I think the depth clues in the image spring to life and it jumps out of the screen! Enjoy your trip back there.

Ian Stehbens on March 4, 2011

In the small versions the lake is not as conspicuous as the foreground but when as it is enlarged the lake and its cloud become the focus and they are very much alive. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, Greg.

Thank you dear Maja.

We leave on Friday next for more of NZ. Returning with images like this one will more than satisfy me. Images have to be very good to do justice to NZ's beauty.

Patagonia keeps beckoning for it too has its majesty, colour, variety awaiting along with many serendipitous moments too.
