Snag forest - 200508LJW

These snags are about 4.5 miles (7.3 Kilometers) from Mount St. Helens. The explosive lateral blast from the volcano on May 18, 1980 devastated all the surrounding country. This former forest was partly shielded by a ridge as the blast roared overhead snapping the trees off many meters above the ground while the intense heat killed anything above the ground.
