Karlstad was founded in 1584. Today, it has about 83.000 inhabitants on 1.200 square kilometers. The main square is in the middle of the city, 48 metres above sea level. Karlstad is situated 320 km from Stockholm, 250 km from Gothenburg and 200 km from Oslo.
