The NATURALRESERVE PARADANA spreads out on the area of 18 hectares, including botanical and forest reserves and natural monuments: Ledeniško kraška globel(Glaciocarstic depression) and Velika and Mala ledena jama(Big and small Ice cave). The distinguishing feature of the reserve is a perfect interwave of surface and underground karst phenomena with some relics of the Ice ages and the inversion of the termal and vegetation belst. In the domain of the association: fir and beech on the massif there are belts of spruce, willow, subalpine bushes, alpine grass and moss which folow one another. At the beginning of the cave there is a permanent snow fielf followed by an Ice field or glacier. The paradana cave system itself consists of Velika ledena jama(Great ice cave depth 650m, and lenght more than 4km), Mala ledena jama(Small ice cave depth 65m and lenght 125m) and so called Jama pri mali ledeni jami(Cave by Small Ice cave, depth 25m, lenght 235m) The reserve is world famous for locus classicus of the vegetation inversion and for the export of the ice overseas (even to Egypt) in the 19th century. The Velika ledena jama entrance is no doubt the most attractive part of the reserve and is worth to be visited in any time of the year.
