Good shot, Gerry! But I am one of the few persons who doesn't like castles, because of what they represent. Power, suppressing of the people by some lords, whose wealth was founded on the work of the poor.

In Switzerland it's a bit different, because the castles usually belonged to the people and were or are still used as the residence of jurisdictiction, by representants of the people.

I never understood, why in whole Connemara Irish people dearly recommended to see Kylemore Abbey, which was built in the 19th century as a kind of castle by a Manchester textile mill owner. First of all I find it an eyesore, to my eyes it's a pretentious building and secondly, I can't understand how people still believe in lords and similar people to be something admirable because of their title or riches. I mean, they could be, but of other reasons as for there power and wealth, just the same as other people.

Greetings, May

Sorry, Gerry. I have been talking about Kylemore Abbey. Malahide is a t least true in its style. it looks very impressive and strong.

And it's all very nice, these banquets and history of the Talbot family. - Banquets held today, where the Talbots have been massacred at breakfast - well, now, people obviously like queer things. ;-|

I love nice old furniture but, no, not to dream of admiring their lifestyle. The only satisfaction might be, that the Talbots and others, would turn round in their tombs, if they saw all these ordinary people crawling through their private rooms. ;-)

Cool place Gerry. I would like to see it. I am glad you included the link in your posting. I love history and it makes the photo even more interesting! Bruce

Rebel May Good on ye! Most of these 'estates' are now golf courses or public parks. Stunning places but I do loath some of the historical aspects of them.

Bruce It's hard to believe I forgot about this castle. Pam will be pulling her hair out!

Beautiful old castle, Gerry, overgrown with ivy. The Loch Lomond Golf Club clubhouse (Scotland) is formerly the Colquhoun estate, where the clan's chiefs lived.

Yes Alex. I haven't played golf there yet but I will be looking forward to seeing your famous bridge!

AlexMatos, on September 27, 2007, said:

It's easy to find, it's just besides teh tee box of the 1st hole, any way the photo was taken by the 16th, that is a fantastic and hard par 3, with river between teh tee box and the green. You have to cross the bridge to go to the fairway of the 1st, after the first stroke over teh river right after the tee box.

Pam. We only put these photos up to please the Yanks and the Canadians ;-) (Always thinking of Bruce, Ryan and yourself). Notice the way May prefered the close up shot. I will exchange castle photos for your ice shots any day.

LOLOL no you like to know that I'm still kicking my tumbleweeds around. ;)

Thank you for sharing it Gerry!

BTW we saw three Eagles when we were in the far south western corner of SK but unfortunately Ryan's bad luck (re cows ;) rubbed off on me so we only got to admire their tail feathers. :(
