The Rödgavel cave at the bottom of "mount" Omberg, at lake Vättern. The cave is 21 meter deep and up to 12 meter high, and can only be reached by boat or skates.
Legends exist about the fairy queen Omma, and her lover, a giant who crossed the lake on the ice, riding on a horse. The horse foot hit the mountain and made the cave, and the giant drowned. And fairy queen Omma cries forever, her tears forming the ice at the cave.
We had the opportunity to visit this cave on skates, one of the few years lake Vättern has ice, and ice of good quality. An experience.
You certainly had a wonderful skating trip Mats, and this one shows the full picture so well. It certainly is a big cave. I love the rock formations and the way the trees cling on for dear life. I wonder if the roots ever split the rocks causing a fracture? That could make it dangerous!
Queen Omma's tears are so beautiful too. Thank you for the legend.

Thank you Amelia for your many comments. We really had a nice skating trip. There was a risk to get the ice taps in your head.
On Thursday we leave for Scotland and the Outer Hebrides. Also places of history and a barren landscape, which we like. And perhaps some whiskey and beer.
When you order your whisky make sure you don't use the 'e' - the Scots spelling will be preferable to American spelling :)))
Enjoy your trip to the land of my birth, and come back with some wonderful photos :)
Yes I know it was something wrong with the spelling, I thought I should check but didn't :-). Thanks for your wishes, we will have a good time. Hälsningar, Mats.
det är en plats jag vill besöka :)
Tack ina-fahlsten för dina kommentarer. Platsen är väl värd ett besök, åtminstone på vintern när vi var där, med alla istappar. Hälsningar, Mats.
