my grandfather adam karl schmidt was born in wehrda on oct 16, 1880 the son of johannes and margethra(eichler) schmidt. he married ida emma mahlig from strebitzko, germany (now trzebicko, poland)who he met while stationed with the german army in the zundy/krotoshin area (now zundy/krotoszyn poland) and emigrated to johnstown, PA in the united states in 1906. he and rest of his brothers were bricklayers/stonemasons by trade in the johnstown area. his other half brother/sisters from the konig family stayed in the wehrda area. .
adam karl schmidt is also related to the trapp family from wehrda. margethra (trapp)schmidt was johannes schmidt's first wife who died about 1879. her brother charles trapp emigrated to the united states with adam's older one half brother wilhlem schmidt in the 1880's.
