When I was 14, my Dad and my brother and I hiked down the old stone steps (that were behind the shot gun range) down to the low lands and the little beach shown here. We the went snorkling in the little bay between the island and mainland. Once we stopped and looked up and saw several baboons on the little island. The story was that the were marooned there when a boat hauling them ran aground years yearlier.

Yes there was definitely monkeys on that small island. We took several trips down the old spanish stairs to that wonderful hidden beach. I never saw any monkeys on the big island, but they were certainly on those small islands in the picture in 1970-72. I never saw a snake on the island but understand now they are an epidemic nuisance.
