alopex2000 on May 26, 2013

If you look closely at Google earth you will see that Flores and Corvo are both located WEST of the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Technically that means that Flores and Corvo are riding west on a different plate than its Azorean neighbors to the east which are headed east. Therefore its not technically correct to say its the most WESTERN spot on the continent of Europe, rather if you are going to apply "continental" logic to these most western island of the mid ocean archipelago one would have to say more correctly they are the most EASTERN spot on the Continent of North America.

William, you are completely right! You refer to the geological perspective.
But there are three kinds of Europe: The geological, geographical and political.

All very interesting but, continental plates aside, this is an island and not a continent. Europe is a continent. Certainly you don't suggest that European political hegeminy ends here. Continents are large land masses. You are muddying the waters. You may call it European, like Great Britain (also an island) but not a point in Europe.
