The now-destroyed mural "Autumn," by David Guinn

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

A wonderful surprise to come upon when walking north on 9th Street on a blue sky day, the mural "Autumn" by David Guinn was unfortunately the victim of a reviving Philadelphia real estate market, covered over when a new building was built on the the abutting parking lot in the winter of 2012.

Neat mural! It really pops with that deep blue sky behind it! Great eye Bitsy! :)

Conrad Nay on March 31, 2011

Nicely done Bitsy! Not to make too much of a point here, but I'll bet that if your arch-rival Kamalyn tried to capture the same image it would look like this...

kamalyn on March 31, 2011

Hey Conrad :p ! ;)

We thanks ye both mightily GG and Conrad!

Great snapture - hope the birds don't try to fly into the forest ! Where did the vote button go ?

kamalyn on April 2, 2011

Thanks waldo! Philadelphia is full of all of this public arts - pretty interesting place to walk!

And they've changed the setup of the Contest completely. No more Vote buttons on the photo pages. But if you click the word 'Travel' under the photo, it brings you to the new set up, even though not one with the photo on it. Seems they now have a completely random group of 10 photos come up, and you can vote for one. Sort of a lottery, but no more so than the old way was, I suppose.

Beautiful!! Vote!!

Laurel211 on April 3, 2011

Great shot **Bitsy.

Bits-n-Pieces on April 3, 2011

Thanks very much Salatico - When I saw the other photos you had voted on I was quite flattered! Thanks for finding my shot through the random new process. Cheers!

Thanks Laurel!

And now official Thanks GG, Conrad, and Waldo! Its been hard to get to my usual spots for photos lately, so at least when I'm here for work, even though it's in the city there are lots of these surprise murals and pieces of public art.

Hi Kamalyn,

amazing painting and great colours. The wood really looks 3D and looking into it makes me feel somehow dizzy.

Best wishes, Timo

Hi Bits. This is a great rendition!

Thanks for explaining about the travel feature. I was thinking that people were visiting me out of goodness. Now I'll go back and see if any if my recent visitors have a similar notation.

When I clicked on travel and voted I could only vote three times (out of each ten) then the choices went black - so great no more Vote buttons and limited voting.

Bits-n-Pieces on April 8, 2011

Thanks Liam and Timo. I did use a polarizing filter, but the shots without one weren't too much different. The sky that day was wonderful!

Thanks Markee! I hadn't known about any vote limit with the new set up. Actually doesn't seem fair if they don't warn anyone about it. I wonder if that just had something to do with your computer cache? But also with this new set up, there isn't any 'contest' advantage to anyone who leaves the Voted message, since there is no way I know of to get to someone's specific photo to vote. So in fact the messages might be sincere.

Itallica II on April 11, 2011

Hi Bits. I've voted about ten times in the last while (on both my iPad and iPhone) and only allowed three or five votes. Maybe it cuts out before reaching the suspect photo? Still I like this new way much better - gives a choice and directs you to photos other than the one started on.

Love it!

Great shot! Greetings from Italy

I am a bit slow - what a great wall....and of course a wonderful photo with lots of colour, I really thought at first it was trees. Cheers, D

Bits-n-Pieces on April 17, 2011

Hi Dianne- thanks! It was sure pretty cool to come upon when out exploring. What doesn't show in this photo is that all of the 'leaves' are done as squares of color, also. I'm come across other murals by the same artist, as well.

Thanks Palmina! Sort of made one want to just keep walking into the woods!

Many thanks Dog!

Paul Strasser on April 30, 2011

Nice to be reminded of this wonderful season in this way. I tried to vote for this but I didn't strike it lucky with the new random choices. Oh well, a like for this instead.

Cheers, Paul

Nawitka on May 2, 2011

This is sure fun! How are you keeping?

Bits-n-Pieces on May 4, 2011

Hi Paul - well, the thought and the nice comment from you are much more meaning full than the contest - so thanks for at least wanting to vote for this. Philadelphia has a mural program - apparently there are over 3000 murals of different types around the city.

Hi Nawitka - Thanks! And well, things are going OK. Though I thnk living life as a juggler riding a unicycle up on the high wire is probably easier than the logistics of mine have been lately. Not leaving much time or enthusiasm for Pan, though.
