Wunderbares Foto Ralf,
Greetings from Agios Fonasontas
Hello agios, thanks for visiting and nice comment. Samos is a beautiful island, and rather green (although not on this photo). By the way, my name is Claus.
Best regards, c.s.
Hello Claus, I have to apologize for the misunderstanding with the names! Agios thought that this is my photo, because I had commented one of his photos, using a link to your photo in it without telling that it is NOT mine. (But of course the name of the photographer can be seen directly under the photo.)
Agios' photo shows the building of a bridge as a model in the "Deutsches Museum" in München (Munich), and he had asked as a joke in the title "the end is near, if they will meet exactly in the middle?". As a comment I told him of the antique tunnel to supply Pythagorion with fresh water from the mountains, this tunnel was built from both sides and met exactly because of good calculation. I have visited it during a wonderful holiday on Samos lots of years ago. And to show Agios the situation of Pythagorion and the mountains I made the link to your photo ...
Best regards from Neuss (Germany), Ralf
Hallo Ralf, I feel very flattered that you have chosen my photo in connection with this masterpiece of ancient technology: the Eupalinos tunnel, named after the engineer (also: Efpalinos). We have visited the tunnel during our vacation, but were also curious about where the springs were located. We found the springs in a hidden hamlet, called Agiades, on the plain of Mytilini. Hope this will explain something about the tunnel. There is also a lot of information to be found on the internet about this subject.
Thinking of Samos,I would like to pack my suitcase, take a taxi to the airport and board the first flight to this beautiful island.
Kind regards, Claus
