The council of the Comunidad Valenciana wants to demolish this lot. They should, under law, never have been built this close to the beach in the first place. About 1000 properties along the coast North West of Denia harbour would be effected.

Looks a bit desolate, anyway. Evocative of a certain movie - which also has huge expanses of lovely beaches largely waisted on all kinds of mayhem etc... And they may have shot a couple of scenes from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly there, for all I know.

Some parts, like this, are very Ballardian in atmosphere. The sad thing is that apart from a few protected marshlands, and places which are 90 degree cliff, the Spanish have allowed this to happen to pretty much the entire Mediterranean coastline. If its anything less than vertical, they build on it, in a way that's never attempted in the UK.

Hmm, I'd better find me some J.G. Ballard to read to know what you're really talking about :)) Although Wikipedia has given me some idea.

Actually, doesn't sound half bad (Ballard, not the atrocities done to Spanish beaches).

Post-apocalyptic. Social breakdown reflected in the mental breakdown of his characters. Tumbleweed blowing across dry swimming pools that are half full of sand. That sort of thing.

Yummy.

Yummy...mmm, well it's the selective eye of the camera at work. This is worst case. Right next door to this is quite an attractive well maintained apartment block

David, You do not have the slightest clue about this lot. There is noone going to demolish anything here. The area out of the cost line is 2 km Noth.

This houses were here before there was even a road in the coast. The only bus there was had to go on the beach itself.

It's true people have not respected much the law (that came in place in the 1967, 20 years after this houses were built) The issue have not been this houses, the issue has been in benidorm and similar places where all the foreigners were coming.

I can give you ideas of why noone would like to have a house in the beach in UK, bit I am sure you know them already. It explains why instead of doing that british come to spain to buy those ilegal houses.
