This is a Sculpture known locally as 'The Wicker Man' I think in Celtic times a wicker man was made of wicker wands then burned at the Festival of Beltane to bring in a good harvest for the following year. Wicker grows in swampy land in Somerset and traditionally was (and still is) made into baskets, cane chairs and furniture.
