As per Hindu believes that Nandhi always face the god. Quite likely to be that the one in http://www.panoramio.com/photo/28624635 be Nandhi. While ox need not to face the God as you can see in this photo.
You know what, I found that Thai and Tamil scripts share some eerie similarity here, which I don't know how to explain. For example...

You wrote நந்தி.
Can you see that similarity?
Thai alphabets evolved from Mon/Khmer scripts, which are also an adaptation of Southern Indian script.
I do see some similiarity. It's really intesting. I spend some time to gather some more information from wikipedia as well. May be because of Rajendra Chola?
