Another beautiful prairie photo, Pam! So this schoolhouse is now part of a farm? The combine is rather dramatically posed here: "Look at me!!!!"

Lilypon on October 5, 2007

Both combines were on the same land (that farmer has a veritable fortune sitting out there). Guaranteed the locals would be eyeballing both. ;)

No wonder so many farmers live in simpler houses here(what they put out on machinery would buy a nice sized mansion...hmmmmm let me qualify that by saying "in Canada" ;).

Hi Pam, This reminds me once in Ireland that I was inside one of this from a friend.

Cheers, Alex

I'm glad you mentioned that Alex since I was unaware they grew wheat. Potatoes always comes to my mind (but if they can grow potatoes they can grow wheat).

I've only been on one a couple of times. The last time I broke out in hives (I must be allergic to wheat chaff). It's too bad since I really found them to be amazing machines (and I did enjoy riding in them). Of course now-a-days the cab is enclosed and the farmer even has air conditioning.

Thanks Bruce :) (re essence: sky, crop, abandoned buildings and combines are so difficult to find here ;).

Pam, I think you made a comment once that you were trying hard to find something other than empty prairie to shoot. But I think you need more of it in your collection! All your recent photos of tall brown grass and big open sky have been very beautiful, and the few lone foreground subject (combine, deer, cow) all add nicely to the flavor. The only thing that closes them off is the viewing angle of the camera. What I'd really like to see is a full 360 panorama to show the complete openness of one of these farms or fields.

:S that means stitching a picture :S I have zero knowledge of how to do that.

Ryan Calhoun on October 7, 2007

There's always a first time to try it!

Always happy to help! And I'm glad you put them someplace safe. Now they won't have to just be flopping around in e-somewhere forever!
