This shot was taken while a small sea was on and the Cranberries were just ripened. This gulch is shaped like a shoe hence its name, "Shoe Hole". This peninsula is dotted along its banks with these deep gulches. Coastal whales can be viewed directly below from atop these ridges. I have seen white sided dolphins and sunfish from here. As well along the trail you might be lucky enough to see the Northern Harriers or Merlin Falcons that frequent the area. Songbirds are numerous in the three groves of trees located around the trail system. Groves mostly consist of fir and white spruce with some pin cherry, very little birch and a scattered mountain ash. The land is mostly coastal and glacier barrens, so expect to see lots of heath and bare cliffs. Rocks date back to 500 million years ago.
