Golubac Fortress

A Duna jobb partján, közvetlenül a Vaskapu-szoros kapujánál, Golubac és Brnjica települések között áll Galambóc várának romja.

A várat valószínűleg a szerbek építették a 13. század végén vagy a 14. század elején. Eredetileg a hidegfegyverek korának felelt meg. A tűzfegyverek megjelenése után a szükségletek szerint bővítették. A vár az elrendezése szerint alsó és felső, valamint külső várra, illetve kora alapján ó és új várra osztható. Stratégiailag jelentős helyen fekszik, a várért és környékéért gyakran háborúztak egymással a bizánciak, a magyarok, a bolgárok, a törökök és a szerbek. Amikor hadászati jelentőségét elveszítette, pusztulni hagyták.

Hi Vince! Golubac fortress to last out long long times. Between 1964–72, a hydroelectric dam was built in the Iron Gate gorge of Danube river, significantly elevating water level. The lower edge of the slope and corresponding parts of the fortress are now flooded.
