Hi Adam thank you for your visit and comments, wel that's a whole story, first because of the passed years,!i have to sharpen my mind it's 48 years ago. I was engineer on a Dutch coaster named Diannel, and we had a regular trade to Goole with strawboard as cargo, from Delfzijl Holland.we mostley spend the weekends in Goole i have very good memory's of that town, but now the picture ,i think i took it of the ship because i needed a tripod, and i always took my camera with me but not the tripod. And i don't no if you are a citizen of Goole, but we spent a lot of hours in the thee shop Copper kettle, may be you no?? In my b en w pics are also some of the Diannel! well and of course i did take a look on your pics, they are beautiful!
hope w'll keep in touch i am curious! greetings Tjeert!

Hello Tjeert, thanks for getting back to me, since my last comment iv'e had a look at some more of your pictures, you've certainly seen a lot of the world, there's some great shots! I also found another Black and White one of Goole (yes I do live there)of Aire street with the little girl holding the lampost, the only building I recognised is right at the end of the shot, the Mackingtosh Arms its still there. I'm going to try and take a shot from the same perspective and post it here. As for the Copper Kettle I don't think its there anymore but I'll ask some of the lads at work who have lived in Goole longer, ex dockers!

Hi Tjeert, great photo. I work on the Docks at Goole as did my father before me. I started work there in 1974 and am still there. When i started in 74 the dockers used to still mention the Diannel, if fact we were still doing strawboards then, but they are long gone now. The Coal Hoist on your photo was removed in the early 90s, to make way for a new Terminal,as were some of the sheds. There are now Containers across road from the Mackintosh. I can remember the Copper Kettle, that was in the town. Its a Chinese Takeaway now.The rest of your photos are very good too, Cheers.

Thanks a lot Bladesman for your kind explanation and comment,i am much surprised,by your story so there are some who remember the Diannel, whe, the crew of the ship where also members of a dockers club, but it is so many years ago i forgot the name of that establishment, the club whas open until one or two o clock,so we spent some time there,it whas always very cosy there, and i think it whas in what they called old Goole!Maybe you can fresh up my mind a bit?? Of course i took a look at your pics, and i like them very much, but Goole has changed a lot!! and thanks also for sharing! greetings Tjeert!

Hi Tjeert, thanks for your comments I cannot recall a dockers club in Old Goole, but there was a lot of Pubs around Bridge Street i.e. Railway Hotel (Melodies) Dock Tavern (Middle House) Mariners Arms (Bottom House) & The Cape of Good Hope (Top House) the Dockers Club opened in 1976 but is sadly now closed, but was never open until 2am! yes Goole has changed very much, lots of new sheds have gone up on the docks. Of course the ships are much larger than the Diannel too.The Pal Line ships bring in roughly 4,000 tonnes each trip.It was a lot happier in the old days though !! cheers Bry, (Bladesman).
