I also know dockers who drove the winches & one who used to heave the guy ropes, he used to live in the same street as our family ! as did a few more dockers.My workmate has been telling me how they used to work the strawboard too ! very hard work i think. The hatchways on the ship are very different to todays ships too ! I have lots of photos of ships visiting Goole, and enjoy looking at them.
