In regards to the weather at the location, I was actually taking advantage of the fact that Maui was experiencing a severe drought at the time. There was virtually no inversion layer during my visit that year. of course, this had some drawbacks in that when I went to Mt.Waialeale on Kauai (wettest spot on earth) it was the only day of that year that it didn't rain.
