It's also interesting to note that this island was part of Trinidad and Tobago territory until the mid 20th Century, when Trinidad and Venezuela swapped possession of Patos (became Venezuelan) and the Soldado Rocks (became part of Trinidad marking the boundary Trinidad and Venezuela at the southern entrance of the Gulf of Paria).

But it is remarkable how close they are. In fact Chacachacare is closer to the Venezuelan mainland than Trinidad is!
