Ryan what is the significance of the round objects in your picture and the caption titled "Reminder"?
Greetings from a very curious Pam :)
Pam, this area (Times Beach) is now a state park for the old Route 66. The old bridge is to the left, which carries the original 66 roadway. The new bridge is to the right, and carries the "new" State Highway 66, which is now Interstate 44. These two footings are all that is left of an even older (narrow) bridge which spanned the Merrimac prior to 1926.
Very nice picture Ryan. You always obtains interest from simple things! Saludos, Claudia.
Oh, what a desillusion! ;-)) I thought those were steps for some giants, who used to live in your area. They are very pretty with the grass growing. In Ireland I have seen some ringforts in the water, they looked a bit like this, only much bigger.
Beatiful picture, Ryan! Greetings, May
Thank you, May! I see what you mean, without anything for scale in the picture. Each one is about 2 feet across, maybe less. They're pretty far away, magnified about 9 1/2 times. I don't know of any natural waterways around here with stepping stones, even in parks. I'll have to go looking!
The town of Times Beach, MO was evacuated in February, 1983 because of excessive levels of Dioxin in the soil. The Visitor's Center in the state park used to be a roadhouse back in the old days of Times Beach. The town board voted to disincorporate itself in 1985, with the approval of the governor of Missouri at the time, a little known man named John Ashcroft.
Nice photo and information, Ryan.
Thanks, Em Mar. I see from your photos that you live relatively nearby.
Yes, Ryan. I'm very Illinoisan and have spent most of my life within an hour of St. Louis.
