You got me, Ian, I would have bet that the shot was from Norway, but that being the land of my ancestors, I am a bit biased. Best regards. -Art

Hi Ian, I would rule out Switzerland in this case. :) I notice that the landscape of Switzerland is mostly filled with pine trees.

I would even suggest Scotland, in particular Perthshire dear Ian ;)

Beautiful meadows of buttercups and thistles and gentle wooded slopes create a delightful image :)

Warm wishes, Amelia

Hi Art, I would be very pleased if you can geo-locate this for me in Norway. We now have facial recognition software that gets to match look-a-likes, but we haven't yet got landscape recognition software that can do this for us. I am relying on you. And I am pleased that this touches one of your soft spots.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks very much, Ah-Pong for your praise of this photo. There are many forests of conifers in this part of NZ, but right now they are being cut down very rapidly for export, especially to Asia.

Dear Amelia,

It is special to imagine Perthshire with you, and to revisit Alyth, Blairgowrie, Dunkeld and Pitlochry together. I visited a school in each of these towns and was a visiting teacher for a day in each. The memory really hasn't faded that much over all the years since, and the love for the beauty of the area has remained very strong.

Warmest regards,

Ian

Merci, Annie. It certainly is special countryside.

Indeed, the landscape is gorgeous. From the map, the landscape looks like it could be BC too. The grass isn't quite as luscious though.

Ian Stehbens on May 15, 2011

Yes indeed, whoelius, it could be BC physically, but it gets a little more sunshine here than BC does...which makes it even better than BC for living. Wonderful landscapes, with colour and variety and majesty just around every next corner. THis area is the sunniest part of South Island, Nelson and Blenheim competing with each other for the title of 'Most Sunshine Hours' each year.

Regards,

Ian
