September 6th, 2011 was the peak of fall colors in my opinion in the Tombstone Mountain range. We started a bit later than I had wanted to because of the weather. I had dreams of some blue skies which would have contrasted quite nicely against these intense yellows, reds and oranges.
This viewpoint is about 3 kilometers in on the 11.5 km trail to the Grizzly Lake campground. One of the harder 11.5 km backpack routes I've done due to the crossing of many large talus slopes which gets tiring when balancing with a pack loaded down for 9 days. It's all worth it of course! The route follows the slopes on the right side of this photo.
