A wine bar, known as The Wine Loft, is located on the corner of 22nd St. and 1st Ave N. The picture shows the outside tables and gate. The significance of the gate is to separate the public from the private. Only customers can sit there. This is an example of functionalism. The fence keeps people out and allows patrons to eat outside in good weather. Gates are a very functional piece of component in all cities. They guide our behavior and separate the use of spaces. How does allowing customers to sit outside help the city of Birmingham?

If people can sit outside they can bring there animals. They can also see how birmingham is changing into a better place to live.
