Photo 092 Hafen is described as near Turnchapel. It is in fact a view of Sutton Harbour in plymouth. Photo 091 Hafen is a view from Plymouth Hoe of Mount Batten.

The early Twentieth century commemorative arch was an attempt to draw American visitors to an area close to which the so-called Pilgrim Fathers finally left after being forced into Plymouth for essential repairs and some reorganisation. it has been said that as Dessenters they may not have met with wholehearted hospitality but they were sufficiently grateful to name their first landing place Plymouth Rock.

I'm now told that 'Plymouth Rock' had been given that name by others even before the 'Pilgrim Fathers' arrived.

This view has deteriorated since the picture was taken. The water behind the pier is now clogged with pontoons making money out of small boat owners.

its just a wall to keep the water in, and gull the yanks into thinking that this is where the 'Pilgrims' sailed from.
