Those were still the good years on the caye back when this picture was taken. The first hurricane in over 20 yrs hadn't happened yet. I finally left after 20 yrs, 4 yrs ago. I miss those days, not what it has become. Those were magical times.
"you can't go home again" - I am always afraid to return to a great place and see that it has been paved over, etc. . . . please don't tell me this house blew away! I will continue to pretend it is still there.
I know what you mean...it will always be the place I left in my heart. By the way, Ellen who's internet shop it was is still there. They were 20 wonderful years.
As I noticed the date the picture was taken I realised that this picture was taken after the storm. Before it was high enough to stand under. In the storm it literally fell over intact so afterwards it was set up again but on shorter posts. The picture brought back a flood of memories last evening I enjoyed very much.
Hey. This is my house! How wonderful to see it again. This house did come down during Hurricane Keith but didn't completely fall apart. I was able to resurrect it and stay there for another 6 months till the owner took it over. This house coming down signified the end of an era on the island for sure, but it is still beautiful here now, just different. Ellen
Hi Ellen! Your place was quite photogenic! I checked email there in June 2001! We were headed south with other cruisers for the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. Great times. Glad to hear from you!
older photo of this house - thanks tukki!
Cade J, So cool to hear of your happy memories that includes checking email there, back then. I remember one customer who was so excited to find my place. She had brought with her a newspaper clipping of a picture of the house. She came up to the door with the clipping in hand exclaiming,"I found the house" and left the clipping with me. It was a frequently photographed place.
can i live half way comfortable in belize?
Billy Mitchell, sorry for the slow reply - Google will not let me move these photos to my active Google account :( anyway, living comfortably is entirely subjective. You knew that, right? I was quite comfortable when I was living there.
