My visit to Tybee Island in Sep 2005 was marked with unrelenting heat and humidity. Being from AZ where it's hot, but not humid, I seriously began to question the sanity of my Aunt and her love of lighthouses on this day. I believe this was some 180 stairs (steep mind you) to the top inside a giant concrete cone with iron stairs, a closely confined space with no outside ventilation...well you get the picture. Needless to say I made it to the top and leaned over the railing (which already seemed to be leaning) and snapped this photo. the view is straight down and the red roof that you see is where you enter the lighthouse to climb it.
