This road was built before paved roads were needed for cars. They never repaved this road. This is an artifact because the road was never paved. Why was this road never repaved?

My idea as to why the road was never repaved is because Birmingham wanted to keep some of its history. Birmingham wasn’t to preserve a piece of the past. As we were told on the tour the road might not be paved because it then causes people to slow down. So is serves as historical and has an underlying functional component.

I agree with Katelyn. I put a picture of the road on here also because I saw it as history. Preserving history is very important.

It was for history. I agree with both Katie and Danielle because the idea was to keep it intact. The intention was most likely for it to become a bustling market place, but unfortunately that has yet to happen.
