The main cathedral of Milan and symbol of the city is named after the Virgin Mary Nashenente , but the Italians call it the Duomo , as well as the city square of the same name . The cathedral was built in Gothic style and is the second largest Christian church in Europe and third in the world. It was built five centuries and ended with a grand structure only in the late 19 century. The highest point of the cathedral - 108.5 m. The cathedral is decorated with 135 steeples and 3159 statues (2245 of them in the exterior).
