:D I wonder if he's looking for salt......on that note do they use salt on the roads there?

It could be. I don't have any idea of what else he'd want to eat in the gravel. Yes, they do use salt on the roads, and cinders in some places as well. I don't know if the park would do the same...I think only the real roads get salted.

Such a darling baby - nice shot, Ryan! Do you know if this park was named for that single wild elk that walked from the western U.S. basically along to the Missouri River all the way into Missouri? I read a book once that told of such an animal. Or am I confusing it with a wolf?!

From what I've read, the Lone Elk was the last survivor from the time when this park was owned by the army. An enormous 7 year old buck, who must have been just born when the army killed off the rest of the herd because they were causing too much damage to the vehicles and equipment (during WWII). It was several years after the war that this elk was discovered, and they brought in a new herd to keep him company, and turned the whole place into a park.
