Athens, Plaka - Anafiotika - JUL. 2011 CONTEST

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Anafiotika is a tiny picturesque district of Athens, is perched on the north side of the Acropolis. Created during the reign of king Otto settled in the area where workers from Anafi, who came to Athens to work as masons in the construction of the palace of Otto. The district was built in the style of the Cycladic settlements and still maintain the light color of the island. It is quite small cubic houses, narrow streets, often resulting in several steps and climbing flowers like bougainvillea. Anafiotika are considered as the north-eastern extension of Plaka.

Why the New Petition goes slowly?

The following message was posted during the previous petition fro saving Panoramio. It contains useful instructions how to spread the ptition form.

SAVING PANORAMIO: IS IT A PRIORITY ? (please read full text)

Everyone of us has his priorities in real life. First of all, I think, is our family, our health and our work. On our leisure time, even then, we have priorities. Personally I believe, that our priority now, must be TO SAVE PANORAMIO. We must mobilize all members. Posting and writing in every social media about, it was necessary at the beginning. But spending hours on them, discussing about or uploading relative photos, is good, but it isn’t effective. WE MUST SPREAD THE MESSAGE AND THE LINK OF PETITION FORM, INTO THE ORIGINAL SITE. There are members, they enter on Panoramio twice or 3 – 4 times a month. All these members we must find.

This must be AN OVERALL EFFORT.

Anyone of us must spread the message:

1. Through popular photos generally or through each photographer popular photo.

2. Through our photos.

3. Through our favorite photographers.

4. Posting an announcement on the forums of our groups and find members of each group, not so active.

5. Through our replies on other members’ comments on our photos.

6. Through the contest winning photos.

7. By personal messages

Many members did all these actions, but we must try more. Our purpose must be not only to save Panoramio, but also we must prove that we have power. Even if the final decision belongs to Google.

I don’t want to discuss about my message now. That’s why, I shall not reply in any comment on Facebook, or Google+. I will continue, as it allows me my free time, only on Panoramio.

Kind regards,

Christos

P.S. You can find a form of message on photos of many Panoramio galleries.
