This is one of the two furnaces at this kiln site in Coal Pit Road, Enfield. It is understood to have been established by the Meek family, although that is all the information I have at this time.
Both furnaces are nearly full of rubbish, but that is generally less destructive to remove than dirt and rocks, so one could say that these two furnaces are "capable" of being restored to a condition that would help demonstrate their construction and use.
The site is on private land and cannot be accessed without approval.
The site is not recognised in either the Waitaki District Council Plan nor the NZHPT register of historic places.
