James McDonald's kiln Sebastapol Hill looking down the furnace

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps [?]

The only one of North Otago's 13 or so lime burning kilns, this, the third oldest, is the only one not filled in with rubbish. As such it has real industrial heritage potential despite the kiln outer-work support structure being in bad shape.

This was James McDonald's first kiln when he moved to North Otago in 1902. This kiln has considerable heritage value but is unprotected.
