Well, I see. I know what is doublespeak. I lived in the USSR. And maybe I have took this pic because I remember our catchwords. However, first of all I find Cuba as wonderful country with beautiful people. It seems to me that 100% of Cubans are incurable optimists :o) Your travel & resort industry (for foreigners) is great already. Maybe this is the first step towards the new economy... Thanks for Your comment.

Socialist Construction is easy to find everywhere along the Island:

Very common prefabricated housing used to build hundreds of little towns in the countryside replacing thousands of huts with dirt floors and without electricity, locally known as bohios

Before Socialism 6% of Habana residents lived in shanty towns, the people in the worse ones were moved into these type of buildings en Bahia, Habana del Este or houses

Hundreds of schools and hospitals all over the countryside are also easy to find:

School

It is easy to find a dark side everywhere else too

Burgueses, Nicolas Guillen:

Peter Uspensky,

Thank you for the picture!!

But you should know that this will never be the first step towards a new economy, it does not work like that in a Communist Country, just like it never did in the former Soviet Union.

And yes, you are right, Cuba is a Wonderful Country just like Cuban's are.

Thank you again.

Hello Peter, Efrain, Zory and Mary11:

"Revolucion es construir". Florida consumed 12.5 million tons of cement last year. About 4 times the consumption of Cuba. Does that make our builders revolutionaries?

The Batista Regime was replaced with Castro’s regime 50 years ago. The population in Cuba doubled since; so a few buildings and schools to mitigate the population growth is little achievement.

If socialism is to be credited for the little construction that occurred in the last 50 years, it should also be responsible for the demise and deterioration that has occurred throughout the island in the last 50 years.

This destruction is abundant and found throughout the country via Google Earth. It is rare to find a city block without a crumbling roof, balcony or wall.

Please note that all significant structures and architectural values that Cubans can brag about; were built before Castro 's regime

Construction has more to do with cement production than with political ideology. Cement production is energy and capital intensive; and Cuba is short on both counts.

On another topic that you brought into this site;

I am sure Nicolas Guillen would be the happiest man, only if he rose from his grave and learned that a black man was running for the presidency of the United States.

I am equally sure Nicolas Guillen would be saddened from learning there are no major black generals in the Cuban army or black members in Castro’s cabinet. Black Cubans have never been proportionately represented in the Castro’s regime.

It seems like “piel prohibida” mentioned in Guillen's lamentation remains prohibida under Castro’s regime. Isn’t this whole thing ironic?

Have a good night.

Peter, Efrain, Zory and Mary11; we all agree the captioned slogan, as well as so many others promulgated by the cuban hierarchy, are meaningless.

They never stand the test of time. To a great extent they are assembled to mask the truth.
