The El Trovatore Motel is one of the few pre-World War II tourist courts left in Kingman, where 17 courts were listed by Rittenhouse in 1946. The business started in 1937 as a service station, with the tourist court added later in 1939, and was first owned by John F. Miller. The motel is located on El Trovatore Hill overlooking the center of Kingman across the highway from the Hilltop Motel. Miller looked for Kingman to become an important crossroads, so he built the El Trovatore Motel in 1939.
Hotel Sal Sagev, the oldest hotel in Las Vegas, opened early in 1906 as the Hotel Nevada was operated by John F. Miller who was an important early Las Vegas businessman involved in community and political activities.
Early in the 1930s, the hotel's name was changed to the Sal Sagev (if that looks strange, read it backward). It operated under that name for more than three decades. Finally it grew into the Golden Gate Casino.
