Remnants of an old building on the North side of Mansfield pond on north left side of track 12.
This is a cattle dipping vat. They used to fill it with an arsenic solution and run the cattle from the far side of the photo off the ledge through the solution to the near side where the cattle walked up the steps to the catch basin (closest flat part of the structure). Texas tick disease was rampant in the days of free roaming cattle and this structure was used to help control it. There is an artesian well head within 50 yards of this for filling the vat with water. Also, look up the town of Mannfield. Very interesting history.
darn--I walked right past it! (was getting late and I had to stop strolling and start hoofing!) very cool, and points for alertness
