This is Atomic Bomb Loading Pit Number 1, if I know my plane positions correctly. On the early morning of August 6th, the Enola Gay was loaded with the Mark I Uranium Bomb "Little Boy" from this pit before Paul Tibbets and his strike force flew it against Hiroshima. The brush was completely cut down around the area then by the Seabees. On the other side of the brush, to the east, was the Loading Pit Number 2, used to load Fat Man on Bockscar three days later.
