I just have a stupid question, being from California USA...! Why is the UK covered in all those separations like rock formations surrounding most of the UK and all of the countryside? I am being completely serious... as it has always been something I am curious about...? Thought I'd ask you, since you seem to be there right now, not knowing whether you live there or not, I just NEED to know? Thanks for your time, and hope you can give me the answer I am looking for right now? Toni

Hi Yes your right these walls of stone are everywhere here in the UK. They are a barrier to hold livestock, to clearly mark land boundaries, being constructed a long time ago when labour was cheap and the stone readily available locally. The rain and snow cannot damage them, no mortar is used, nobody wants to steal the stone - a perfect job!
