The low tide uncovered the rocks revealing the microscopic life in the shallows. The photo was taken in April 2006.

The difference of low and high tide in Ireland as well as in England always amazes me anew.

If you find in Google Earth Dungarvan( Co Waterford), you will see a light blue area surrounding the bay. It is an enormous shallow. The same in Cork, Tramore and some other places. All these areas are getting literally empty (only mud) when the tide is out. When you see it first time, you just can't believe your eyes!

Yes, Inessa, that's exactly what amazed me. I passed all the places you mentioned, since I went all around the coast.
That's also why it was possible to cross the sea at low tide to Omey Island. It was open until midnight, when the tide started to get high again.

Interesting conversation. I remember playing golf at Dunmore East and we parked the cars along the wall beside the beach. photo here. The tide was out at the time. A southerly gale was blowing and when we returned the waves were splashing over the wall and onto the cars. It was a great laugh watching the drivers trying to dodge the waves to retrieve the cars (especially the ones that got drenched):-)

Hi. I love Tramore and the surrounding villages including Dunmore. I was brought up in Tramore and now live in the UK. There is no place like it. I love returning in the quiet times, the beach is the best that I have been to. I may even end my days there ...who knows :) Vera.
