Chand Baori est un des premiers baoris (ou bâolis) qui furent construits tout au long de l’histoire du Rajasthan. Ce n’est pas seulement un monument à l’architecture étonnante, mais surtout un édifice qui a été conçu pour résoudre le problème du manque d’eau dans la région. Dans cette terre du Rajasthan où les pluies semblent être un cadeau des divinités hindoues, des hommes ont creusés ces puits très profonds afin de s’assurer d’une réserve d’eau pendant les longues périodes de sécheresse.
