Elaborate gates like this, you will find almost everywhere in Thailand! Usually, they have portait of the King, Queen or both as shown here. The King is always shown as 30-40 year old, and not 83 as he is now (2011).

The gates are built not only when you enter a village or city, but also at subdivision or temple grounds entry point.

This is a small town near Sukhothai, population about 1000 people, but surprisingly with very good coffee sold in a small hut on the side of this road.
