The is actually known as the Exchequer Dam. The original Exchequer Dam, built between 1924 and 1926, was a concrete gravity arch dam and created a reservoir with a capacity of 280,000 acre-feet(350,000,000 m³), which was called Exchequer Reservoir until 1926, when its name was changed to Lake McClure to honor W.F. McClure, a California State Engineer. New Exchequer Dam was built to increase the reservoir's capacity.
