McMurdo is the main US Antarctic Program logistics and science base in Antarctica. About 2000 people live and work there. The big building in the middle is the Crary Lab, where a lot of the scientists have labs and workspace.

Your best bet to get an idea of the type of research being done in Antarctica is to follow the links from this page:
http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5519&org=OPP
(that's on a single line). There are many many many research projects.

I was stationed at McMurdo during operation DEEP FREEZE 62 and 63. Things sure have changed since then. Much more people and very modern living conditions. Would like to chat with you about them. E-mail me at richardse@aolcom.

this photo is correct as it is McMurdo Station, HOWEVER, the coordinates of the photo are off slightly, it should be located over the Ice as we are looking east toward the station and the only place to get all this info, is from a POV over the ice.
