The start of this path is at the pipe bridge, off the trunk road A1085 near the Corus Steel Plant roundabout. It is called by the council "The Teasside Way" but has always been known by the locals as the "Black Path", it was used in the old days as a means for the sailors from the Dock to get a drink, mainley in the red light area of Middlesbro. It was known as the Black Path because of the route it takes through the industrial area, it bypasses the Coke Ovens. I have walked it, it is not too bad until you get to the Coke Oven smell, but it is only for a short stretch! A good walk to get to Middlesbro, but not very scenic, unless you like industrial heritage also some litter about.

I have never really used it much, but I imagine long ago it was the quick walk to middlesbro. I did not realise how far it went, until I walked it a couple of years ago. It gets a bit smelly past the coke ovens though, best to pick a weekend when they are not in use. I live near the Yorkshire Coble in Redcar, and generally used to walk 15 miles a day to other areas, but I cannot do that now.
